“Cancer and its treatments can be debilitating for so many people. Being in a position to help guide patients through their cancer journey by reducing discomfort and improving their ability to participate in the activities they enjoy is truly a blessing.”
About Nancy
Nancy graduated from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences in 2003. She then went on to receive her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy with an emphasis on oncology rehabilitation in 2004. Upon graduating, Nancy worked in a variety of settings including skilled nursing facilities, home health services, wound care, and inpatient and outpatient hospital-based rehabilitation before settling into private practice. Throughout this time, she continued to pursue her education in oncology rehab with a special interest in breast cancer.
In 2008, she was trained through the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy and became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. In addition to providing hands-on treatment, Nancy focused on improving access to care for individuals with breast cancer and lymphedema as well as community education for both patients and health care professionals. She has performed numerous lectures and in-service within the Southern Maine community including lectures for the American Cancer Society, Maine Occupational Therapy Association, University of New England, the Dempsey Center and local breast cancer support groups and radio podcasts.
Nancy believes in a holistic approach to successful cancer rehabilitation that encompasses both cancer’s physical and psychosocial effects. Her education and experience in breast cancer rehabilitation has made her proficient in the treatment and management of postoperative complications including lymphedema risk reduction and management, pain, axillary web syndrome/cording, radiation fibrosis, scar tissue, shoulder dysfunction, and the impact of breast cancer on intimacy and self-esteem.
Nancy lives in Biddeford with her husband and their two children. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and attending her daughter and son’s many sporting events. She also enjoys gardening, boating, and going to the beach.
